In October 2022 we published the Spanish translation of Lukáš Likavčan’s Introduction to Comparative Planetology. The text analyzes visual cultures of Earth imagery from the perspective of the geopolitics of the climate crisis. It compares different “figures” of the planet — Planetary, Global, Terrestrial, Earth-without-us, and Phantom Earth — and assesses their geopolitical implications. These are then translated in the book into the ability or inability of any one figure to contribute to building the infrastructural space for planetary coordination of our design interventions that could avert accelerating global warming and ultimately mass species extinction.
Lukáš Likavčan (*1991, Nové Zámky, Slovakia) is Global Perspective on Society Postdoctoral Fellow and research affiliate at Center for AI & Culture at NYU Shanghai. His areas of expertise cover philosophy of technology and environmental philosophy.
